Thompson Homes, a premier Owensboro KY home builder, welcomed Dave Roberts to the Thompson family last month. Before joining our company, Dave previously worked as an Assistant Controller for the Mulzer Family of Companies, a CRH Company and Alexander Thompson Arnold (ATA) as a public accounting auditor.

Dave brings a vast amount of experience to Thompson where he is now our Chief Controller in which he serves as the head of accounting and finance. His day-to-day duties and responsibilities include analyzing numbers to gauge company standing, strategic planning for the future, creating ways for the company to reach specified goals and metrics, payroll, and helping to keep employee satisfaction and moral high.

Dave gets asked plenty of questions about his job. One of the most frequently asked questions he gets from colleagues is, “So, you deal with numbers and stuff?” Dave jokingly recalls. “From the day I started my accounting journey, this is almost unanimously the first questioned asked by peers who are uncertain about my job. It is an oddly accurate way of putting my job. However, it is usually the “stuff” that make my job challenging and fun.”

Dave finds his career rewarding. “Feeling what I do matters,” he says is what he does most about his job. “At the basic level I am dealing in raw numbers, cash flow, and finances. I really love integrating all those things in with the operational side to help people get in their homes.” In addition to working at Thompson Homes, Dave is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Board Officer (Treasurer) for Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County, and currently works on two committees for the Kentucky Society of CPAs.

A native of Glasgow, Dave graduated from Metcalfe County High School. In high school he played baseball and earned a scholarship to play at the collegiate level. Dave is married and a proud father of three daughters all under the age of three. He thoroughly enjoys travelling with his family, exploring new places, and creating memorable moments. Before the kiddos were born, Dave and his wife backpacked for 30 days in Europe, which was one of the greatest experiences in life. When Dave is not working or spending time with his family, he enjoys golfing, watching the Chicago Cubs play, checking out National Football League (NFL) games, and playing in various fantasy football leagues during the season. When asked if he is #teamtaco or #teampizza, it is all about #teamtaco for Dave. “There are few things on this earth that can measure up to an authentic street taco!”
